Wisdom Tooth Removal is a service offered by Boca Specialty Dental and Braces at all 3 of our Reno clinics. Full clinical content for this page is pending — see the launch checklist for what content is required.
Recognizing the signs early makes treatment simpler. Here’s what we look for — and the surest way to know is a quick exam with a Boca dentist.
A full-mouth panoramic X-ray shows the position, orientation, and root anatomy of all wisdom teeth, and a surgical plan is developed.
Fasting instructions if sedation is used, and pre-op medications as needed.
Local anesthesia for all cases. Oral sedation or IV sedation is available for anxious patients or complex surgical cases.
An incision is made (if needed), bone is removed (if needed), and the tooth is sectioned and removed. The surgical site is then cleaned.
Dissolvable sutures are placed, and gauze is applied to control bleeding.
Detailed care instructions, a prescription (antibiotics and/or pain medication if indicated), and ice-pack guidance are provided, and a follow-up appointment is scheduled.
Swelling and soreness peak around day 3 and gradually subside; most soreness resolves within 7–14 days, and the dissolvable sutures dissolve on their own.
Removing problem wisdom teeth prevents pain, infection, crowding, and damage to adjacent teeth.
Removes the source of recurring infection, pericoronitis, and pain.
Stops the pressure and crowding that can damage neighboring teeth.
Most easily removed in the late teens to mid-twenties, when roots aren't fully developed and recovery is faster.
Optional bone grafting at the time of extraction preserves the site for future implants.
